Introductions to some of the characters found in my art and stories!
By no means is this a comprehensive list, but I hope you find someone you enjoy!(I'm currently building my website on my own domain,
so please excuse any formatting issues on mobile in the meantime, I'm aware!)
Blake
Blake is a sweet, kind, and sensitive person. His upbringing was gentle, working on his mothers' farm was fulfilling and he couldn't have wanted more. That all came to an end when one evening on he took a wrong turn on the way home. The woman who's land he trespassed onto was, to his misfortune, a devote follower of the devil of blood. Blake ran home, terrified from his new affliction. His mothers begged him to stay, but in the night he fled- alone- to spare his mothers what he thought was a burden. The town he grew up loving now viewed him as a bad omen, a curse on their land. It became apparent quickly that it wasn't just his own village that held this belief about "cursed folk", but all the land. The Church of the Final Bell spreads daily warnings of cursed folk, and has forced Blake to wander, indefinitely and alone. There is no cure, and he simply yearns for company and someone he can trust. Before his curse, he enjoyed baking and walking through the quiet woods. He'd brew tea and sit by his favorite window.

Rimourn
Rimourn is a traveler, seeking (so he thinks) one thing: to hunt down those responsible for his own curse, and many others. Though most of life feels dull now, he got away, and now seeks vengeance above all else to the ones who turned him down this path. He's jaded, but still tries in his own ways to be kind to anyone he meets- not wanting to continue the spread of misfortune. He keeps the nature of his curse well covered and guarded, knowing how the world reacts to cursed folk. It isn't until he runs a group of fellow wandering outcasts, that he thinks there may be something more after his revenge.Previous to this new normal, all he wanted to do was take naps beside his village's stream (no matter the weather). He excelled in foraging, and learned hunting skills from his best friend and cousin, never thinking what the future would possibly do to them.
Verity
Verity is a young priest in training for The Church of the Final Bell. Above that though, she is a talented and intelligent person. Her mentor recognizes this, though discourages pushing certain boundaries as they anger those in higher power. As a part of a "coming of age" tradition in the church, Verity is given a blessed dagger, and a secret message from her mentor telling her exactly where she can find the information she seeks. The knowledge is forbidden to those in training, let alone the public. Knowing what she must do, she takes the book and runs from the only place she's ever known. Taking the tome awakens many of the church's guard, but one armor set seems to go against its usual programming- instead traveling with Verity as a new unlikely friend. She's happy for the company as she travels, learning the secrets of the church and building her own identity outside of them.Verity loves being outdoors, climbing on things and finding beetles under rocks. As much reading as she does, she'd really rather be doing the writing herself or creating art.

Lillith
Growing up there only ever seemed to be one path for Lillith, and that was to join the city guard of Halicath. However, soon after getting the job, the façade started to fade away. Her faith in the guard quickly fell apart as she watched them intervene where unnecessary, and offer little support in the wake of their "duties". It broke her heart and filled her with shame to realize. So, she left. Still wanting to do good, and maybe atone for her involvement, she went rogue and acted on her own. Now working as more of a "private investigator", she does what she can- and so far she's doing quite well. Her training can't prepare her for everything, though. When people start going missing, and getting attacked in the night by something that leaves completely alien wounds, not many people know what to do. And, as usual, the guard is barely acknowledging the issue. She ends up getting sucked into it all herself when she suddenly finds herself in possession of what might be a part of these issues, a small rock that is... talking to her? It's making a lot of promises and offers, and Lillith has a decision to make.
Nathan
Life goes in circles in the city of Halicath, high above the clouds nothing ever seems to change. Nathan is a smartass that finds himself getting picked for fights on account of his attitude, narrowly escaping each time with his life, but with little dignity. At some point though, that luck runs out. After tumbling to what should be his death, Nathan hears a voice asking to make a trade. To his horror, what he thought was just some fragment of the same rock that kept his city floating is talking to him. The sentience that identifies itself as Oberon, offers to save his life. And he takes it- trading away his autonomy and a good chunk of his physical body in the process. Reeling from the sudden shift in his life, he climbs back into the shadows of Halicath, quickly learning that a lot of people think he's dead- and Oberon thinks it should stay that way. So Nathan does. He becomes Oberon's hand, traveling to take on the various tasks that are asked of him.He really doesn't mind the solitude, it isn't too different from before. It's a lot of fun, actually. Though, it comes with a lot of new issues. He's not the only one with a new friend in his head.

River, the Nøkken
River, as they've adopted the name, is at peace with what they are. He enjoys the part of the ecosystem that he is- everything passes, and it just feeds another. Other than to lure unsuspecting victims, he really only interacts with the fishes and crawdads. Maybe a deer or fawn when it comes to drink from his stream. He sticks to himself, practicing his violin late at night, enjoying being the only sound besides the frogs. He is heavily based on the Norwegian and Swedish versions of the the Nøkken folklore. There are still artistic liberties taken as he is also based on a specific river that is local to me that I frequented much in my upbringing, and currently. All the plants drawn on him are based directly from images I've taken myself of plants growing in the area, including his surroundings. Both the place and folk tale hold a lot of nostalgic value to me, and River is a way to be indulgent about my love of it.
Eirlys
Eirlys is a forest spirit who's appearance changes with the seasons. They wander aimlessly, enjoying their woods and all the creatures within. That all said, sometimes it gets lonely and they wish they had someone to share it with... but humans just don't get it.As the seasons change, so does their attitude, and one summer they venture a little further than normal, towards human civilization. Though it's not hard, with how much bigger their villages are getting. Here they find other spirits that live in tandem, interacting with the humans. Like a Nøkken, and a stone spirit born from altars built by humans.
